- Stool and side table designs - 'Soft edges'
- In some cases laser engraving used to block print
- Great contrast of colour and texture
Surface designer Hannah Sabapathy…
designed this series of complex and beautifully patterned tables. The design draws inspiration from naturally occurring patterns, questioning why we have such a strong emotional attachment to certain materials and why so many designers and makers strive to imitate them.
Laser engraving patterned surfaces
Each pattern was laser engraved onto a number of different materials. Laminated woods, bare woods and lacquered metals were each treated in different ways to reveal the patterns. Each piece can be placed on any of its different sides, revealing the different surface finishes.
It’s mind blowing how many materials can be laser engraved all with slightly differing results. Have a browse through our materials gallery to see how the laser reacts to different classes of materials.
