Laser cut wood shapes – ‘Mr Cube’
Hector serrano studio is a hugely respected design consultancy. The projects they undertake combine innovation with the communication of familiar ideas in unusual and inventive ways.
Initially part of 100% design
The laser cut products were on display as part of Ten Plan 23-26 September 2010* at 100% design, which showcased the work of ten designers who have a particular emphasis on sustainability.
Mr Cube comprised a set of plywood pieces with hidden magnets that can be attached to form the head, arms and legs of a figure or combined to create a cube.
The components were fabricated from layers of 1.5mm and 3mm birch plywood each laser cut to specific dimensions. Holes located within the middle layers acted as supports for magnets which remained invisible when fully assembled.
The product is now in production and on sale at Muji.
